Preventing Sun Damage on the River
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the country - about 6 million people are treated for skin cancer each year. Fortunately, there are several things we can do to reduce our risks for skin cancer.
Wear sunblock. We like this broad spectrum SPF 40 cream by Badger. There are only four ingredients: zinc oxide, sunflower oil, beeswax, and vitamin E.
Cover up. UV rays are strongest between 10 am and 4 pm, so wearing long sleeves, hats, sunglasses, and pants will serve you well during the middle of the day. A lightweight sun hoodie is my go-to even during the hottest summer days.
Get some shade! Outfit your raft with our bimini mounts or umbrella mounts. If you’re using our bimini mounts, we recommend Leader Accessories biminis. If using our umbrella mounts, we recommend the EasyGo beach umbrella or AMMSUN beach umbrella.
